Friday was my birthday and what better way to have homemade cake (made by my better half, Christian) and a glass of raw goat milk? Mmmmmm-mmmm! I am pretty sure all the awesome qualities of the milk cancel out the sugar and empty calories of the cake, right? Well, anyway it was deeeeelish! He made an old fashioned yellow cake with a hint of cornmeal in the mix and topped it with chocolate icing. What a good man I have! Baby even got her own piece of cake with no icing on it and some french vanilla ice cream on the side!
Anyone interested in some raw milk? It is excellent for nursing sick baby animals back to health, bottle-feeding abandoned baby animals, and well, lots of things! I may know a lady ... (; ....
$8/ gallon....
This week has been filled with some pretty awesome sunrises...so beautiful I had to post pics....
The summer veggies are still coming in nicely - I am harvesting okra, purple peppers, jalapenos, cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, green beans, and herbs almost every day. The cantaloupes are almost ready and the sugar baby watermelons are still producing, although they have just slowed down a bit. The cukes have been done for a while and the squash and zucchini got taken over by the squash bugs...wah! I planted a new crop of carrots about ten days ago and they seem to be doing well so far. I have broccoli, cabbage, beets, snow peas, green beans, and spinach started and ready for transplant, just trying to wait a little bit for the temps to drop...
Baby has been hanging out in the field with the chickens in the evenings until they roost since we saw that pesky little fox in the field... she enjoys it and has been doing a great job of marking the field with her scent - hopefully that will keep the foxes at bay. The days are already getting shorter, so I am already getting to come home a little earlier every evening which I am really beginning to appreciate - for a while there, the hens were not going in to roost til after 9pm!
Milly has really gotten her appetite back and her attitude seems much happier and back to normal - now she just needs to start packing on the pounds... she is ALWAYS eating and even though her back is straight and her legs seem stronger, when she runs and plays with the other kids, she has a little sideways swagger run...it's cute and she may always have this, but the fact that she is eating and playing is such a relief to me - that little booger had me so worried! The meningeal worm is something I hope I never have to deal with again!
From L-R: Milly, Ellen, & Misty
