Good morning!!!! Annnnnd happy Summer! I woke up early and had planned to bake a Guiness chocolate cake today for the 'sweet stuff sunday' return, but instead was having some serious donut cravings, so made these deeeeeelish sour cream donuts dusted with confectioners sugar.
These are super easy to make, and this recipe will make 1 dozen with a little batter left over, so you can either overfill your donut pans and the holes will close up, or just have a little extra batter at the end...
ingredients:
donut batter:
2 C all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 pinches of nutmeg (optional, but makes all the difference in flavor)
1/2 cup sunflower oil (or any vegetable oil would work, I just had this on hand)
1 C sour cream
2/3 C sugar
2 eggs
1 Tb water
3 C confections sugar and a brown paper bag for shaking the fresh warm donuts in when they are right out of the oven!!
Cut up 5 Tb butter and evenly distribute in the donut pan, then pop into the oven as you preheat it to 350.
in a large mixing bowl, put all of your dry ingredients in, and whisk together...
now add your eggs, sour cream, oil, and watering mix vigorously for 30 sec by hand...
take your donut pans out of the oven and fill less than half full - if you overfill, they will just comet looking like muffins... yeah, done this before. You can spoon it in or spoon all of the dough into a large freezer bag and cut the bottom corner tip off to 'pipe' it into the pan (I learned to do this in order to feed Mr. Fantastic as well - ha!)
Now bake for 20 minutes...
Throw two at a time into your bag with confectioners sugar, and BOOM! Tasty, yummy, homemade donuts without using a deep fryer! Do any of you have donut frosting recipes you'd like to share? I want to make these again maybe with a strawberry or chocolate frosting...
I am off to braid horse manes and enjoy this beautiful milk morning before it gets too hot!
xoxo
